Add a GIS planning project to your portfolio in a week
Many people get a college degree, but they have the challenge of demonstrating applied project experience on their portfolio. GIS is one of the applied technical tools that can be used to quickly demonstrate technical prowess no matter your field of study. In this class, we can show a novice GIS user how to accomplish a project consisting of data collection, analysis, cartography, and distribution through a web display. We will do this using a current case of local neighborhood zoning and planning. Growing populations have forced cities to think about increasing housing and rental density through In-Fill programs. You will learn how to create a real mapping project using ArcGIS Pro. The final outcome will be our advice on ramping up your Linkedin profile with graphics, links, and GIS branding to make you more marketable.

Why my course is useful
There are sooooo many people graduating college and finding that they are missing technical skills showing up in job announcements. GIS can make you highly technical, analytical, and marketable.
Why I built it
The rise of commercial EdTech inspired me to want to create agile education for the masses to consume. My aim is to adapt my curriculum deliveries to be accessible to a world of novice GIS users rather than just 12 people sitting in my classroom.
What I hope for you
I want each of my students to feel like GIS is learnable and a career is attainable without having to go back to college and spend a couple years in classrooms to get an advanced degree. I hope you take my advice that there is a shorter path to learning GIS project skills that will make your Linkedin portfolio look like a professional GIS analyst.

I was new to GIS and found this to be a really good first project. Andres explanations were simple and covered lots of terms I had wondered about.
I was suprised at the variety of functions that I would learn in an intro class. It took a lot of focus in my evenings.
This was a comprehensive intro to both the software and local planning which might be useful in my neighborhood.
I appreciate this intro to GIS and planning. Andres you are very easy to talk to and give me both GIS and industry advice.
Mr. Abeyta’s class had a nice mix of planning needs at the local level along with the needed functions and maps to support local neighborhood causes.
